Understanding the importance of using proper Risk Management tools: The Highlight of today was trading GS and entering the trade when vitals were solid, protecting our position with stops. I did this at least 5 times. If it was not for using stops, bad losses would occur. Even though there were multiple entries without many buyers to enter the trade and push momentum, we learned by seeing great examples of critical patterns when the movement began to fail.
By using stop market orders, we remained calm through the wiggles and jiggles, staying focused and safe. This stock was trying to get a break-out move going, this did not happen until the latter part of the day where it made a nice move up and filled in some of the gap down from earlier in the day.
Always stay alert for the reversal turn, buying into the positive move up on the first 3 minute green bar, setting your stop a penny below the last low. On your next 3 minute bar, you want it to close above the half-way point of your previous bar. You can use trend lines to mark your charts at these points. This is where you would move your stop up, protecting the profit because you do not know what will happen on the next 3 minute bar.
Risk Management will save you money (and make you money) and remove some stress while validating entry & exit points. If you don't use this tool, it's going to be something you want to study and then implement on every trade.
